When someone asks me how I relax, I never have one single answer, it’s more like a mosaic of little rituals that keep me grounded. For me, relaxation isn’t about switching my brain off, it’s about giving it gentleness, space, and softness in a world that’s always demanding speed.
Writing is my first refuge. Putting thoughts onto paper or a blank screen feels like pouring the heaviness of my mind into words. Sometimes I write poetry, sometimes just messy reflections, but it’s healing. Writing organizes the chaos inside me, and in those moments, I feel like I’m having an honest conversation with myself.
Then there’s the morning walk. I love stepping out when the world is still stretching awake, when the air feels cleaner and the noise hasn’t yet caught up with us. Birds chirping, sunlight slowly spilling over the streets, and that calm stillness, it’s like nature reminding me that peace is still possible. Just walking in nature feels like an invisible hand unclenching all the tight knots inside me.
On other days, listening to bhakti songs or spiritual music soothes me. It’s not just about religion, it’s about connecting with something larger, something beyond my everyday worries. That rhythm and devotion make me feel like I’m surrendering my stress to a bigger sky, and suddenly, I breathe easier.
I also find comfort in simple joys like food. Eating my favorite dish feels like an embrace, familiar, nurturing, and grounding. There’s a unique kind of relaxation that comes from savoring something that brings back childhood memories or a sense of home.
And yes, I’ll admit, I unwind with K-dramas too. There’s something about immersing myself in those stories, the emotions, the slow-burn romances, or the humor, that feels therapeutic. It’s escapism, but the healthy kind, the kind that makes me laugh, cry, and believe in human connection again.
Sometimes it’s scrolling through memes late at night, because humor has a way of reminding us we’re not alone in our struggles. Other times it’s journaling gratitude or doing skincare routines, not just for the skin, but for the soul, a way of saying, “I’m worth the care.”
At times, it’s as simple as lying on the floor with headphones on, drowning in music that feels like it understands me better than people do. Or calling that one friend who just gets it, even if we talk about nothing in particular. Sometimes it’s switching off the phone completely, because digital silence can feel like a spiritual detox.
Relaxation for me is never just one act, it’s a collection of small, soul-hugging things. It’s about choosing myself again and again, in the simplest ways.
