Wrapped in Winter

Honestly, I adore cold weather; it’s my absolute favorite season, hands down. There’s something incredibly comforting and healing about winter that touches me not only physically, but emotionally and psychologically as well. The instant the temperatures start to drop and that cool chill moves into the air, I experience this odd feeling of inner peace… like the world has finally slowed down enough to catch its breath.

Winter, to me, is the season of comfort and coziness. I get to dress in all my baggy stuff, oversized sweaters, long scarves, large hoodies, and feel utterly comfortable. I’ve always been a bit self-conscious of my chubby physique, and winter wear feels like an embracing hug that covers up my insecurities without worrying about people judging me. There is a feeling of serene acceptance about winter style, it doesn’t require perfection, it simply requires you to feel warm and comfortable.

One of my most magical experiences is an early morning walk during winter. The air is fresh and clean, and there is a stillness that feels almost sacred. That feeling when the mist wraps everything and you can hear the sound of your own feet, it’s beyond words. You feel like the world stands still for you to catch your breath, think, and just be. I feel most clear-headed and calm while walking like this, it’s almost like a walking meditation.

And let’s not forget about flowers! While most people associate blooming with spring, in India, winter bursts forth in its own flower wonder. Bougainvillea blooms everywhere in gorgeous purples and pinks, and I just can’t help but be reminded of cherry blossoms in Korea whenever I see them blow in the wind. It’s as if nature is reminding us softly that beauty still exists, even in the cold.

Another thing that makes winter extra special for me is the lack of sweat. I normally sweat a lot, and summers can be really embarrassing for me, with sweaty clothes, oily skin, and that perpetual sticky sensation. But during winter, I am able to step out without any of that. Everyone feels refreshed, skin looks better, and there is this radiant glow that results from cold weather and cozy routines. Psychologically, it greatly boosts my confidence and self-esteem.

And a funny (but totally true) reason I adore winter? Fewer bugs! A lot of creepy-crawlies, particularly lizards, hibernate. And because I have a pretty intense lizard phobia, winters are a blessing. I don’t have to keep looking over my shoulder to check walls or ceilings before entering a room, and that freedom, however small, makes me feel so much more secure and at peace.

At a deeper emotional level, winter is a permission slip to go slow. It resonates with my introverted personality, fewer social obligations, more quiet time, soft music, reading by the window, journaling, and simply being with myself without guilt. There is a psychological comfort in shorter days and longer nights, as if the world agrees in unison to sleep more, dream more deeply, and accept solitude.

Winter isn’t a season; it’s a state of mind. A reminder that it’s okay to retreat, to tuck in both literally and metaphorically. That healing, introspection, and stillness are not signs of laziness, but are necessary for growth. It’s a lovely, snuggly, soul-enriching season… and each year, I wait for it like an old dear friend.

  1. Till I reached the post end I already fell for the winter, lol.😂

You feel like a good friend. If you were a classmate we would have talked & gossiped about many things.

I read many more people. There responses to the prompts have many similarities with little differences.

Your words speaks to the heart directly. I also want to check is it just me or it is true for others as well?

Winter is a state of mind (mindset). This is also my conclusion after observations.
In the winters the rigid boundary between the reality and the dreams break. The fog creates an illusion; it looks like a vast canvas, the trees appears to be the important elements of a painting/drawing.

Warmth. We chase it everywhere in the winters. We want more sunlight and warmth. When they are more people and objects in the room it feels warm.
Chai is another such source, apart from warm water.

You mentioned how your mind and body are more suitable to the winters. Hoodies are just perfect.
They look good on most people. Winter clothes are comfortable too.
    People look cute na??

You talked about the sweat problem and the oily skin.
Dry skin is a problem, in my case. Body lotions are welcome.
I rarely get sweat in normal days. Because I don’t do much physical work.
Sweat is common in the summers. It works like a body cooling system. Therefore it’s necessary.

No need to feel uncomfortable about this.
Cleanliness is expected from people, in general. It should be maintained.

Some people take baths on weekly basis in the winters.😂😂

Short walks are like another group of friends.
Every time you go on a walk you feel more relaxed, calm, and active.

Still I can resist cold at some extent. Too much cold is very uncomfortable for me.
Actually we all are linked to our native place. We fit more at the places we are born.

I’m lazy actually. Morning dreams are the best. I prefer to wake up late (when sun rises).
Morning dreams are a subconscious state. You are awake but not completely.

You mentioned flowers. I have observed limited flowers. So I have nothing to share more on that.
I have see different bird species in the winters. I can mention that.

One more thing water bodies rivers, lakes, and well produces little warm & fresh water in the winters.

Why girls fear lizards? Many girls do fear lizards.
I don’t fear the lizards, I’m scared of snakes.

Can we different a male lizard from the female?
I just believed all lizards are female, lol.😂

    1. Hahaha your comment made me laugh from beginning to end! 😂 To begin with, thank you for taking the time to read the entire post, and then falling for winter on top of everything…. total win-win situation! 😄

You really do sound like someone I would’ve shared a desk with, chatting throughout boring lectures, and silently judging those who did not shower in winters (yes, we all know that one person who boasted it every year 🫣).

But let me add one truthful little twist, agar hum desk share karte toh I don’t think hum itni baten kar pate, you know I’m socially awkward and introverted, so I’d just end up smiling awkwardly, looking away, and overthinking each word that comes out of my mouth. 😅

But still, imagination has no limits, so in our imaginary classroom, we’re definitely gossip buddies, sharing snacks during breaks and secretly rolling our eyes at annoying classmates. 😄

You’re seriously one of a kind! 💛 No one comments like you do, most people, if they do respond, just drop one or two words like “nice” or “relatable” (which I still appreciate!), but it leaves me wondering if my post really spoke to their heart or just passed by. But your comment? It felt like a conversation, like someone truly listened. That’s rare, and so special. 😊

I loved what you wrote about fog transforming the world into a painting. That dreamy illusion, when everything seems as if it’s frozen in a watercolor world.

Also, yes! Hoodies aren’t just shirts, they’re emotional support blankets with arms. And yes, individuals do look that much cuter in winter wear! Certain faces were made for mufflers and nose-tips going bright red. 🥹

About sweat, haha you’re right, it’s nature’s AC, but jab wo overperform karta hai na. toh embarrassing ho jata hai. Dry skin gang ka bhi alag hi struggle hai, body lotion leke ghumna padta hai jaise travel-size armor ho.

And lizards. uffff. I know snakes are scarier overall, but lizards just feel more personally offensive, like they’re judging me from the ceiling with those weird eyes.

By the way, you observing bird species in winter, that’s so an awesome observation.

Aur haan, last wali line, “kitna vela hun main”, believe me, I felt that in my soul 😆 But seriously, thank you for writing all this, it felt like a long warm winter conversation over chai with a friend.

Kuch jyada hi nhi likh diya maine 😅
