  2. Congratulations! 🎉🎉

May I know how the price of a book get fixed?

    1. Thank you so much! 😊
About your question, I published my book using Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) service. The pricing is based on several factors like the number of pages, the type of print (paperback or hardcover), and the quality of paper you choose. KDP gives a minimum price suggestion based on production costs, and we’re allowed to set the price at that minimum or higher.

Since KDP operates primarily from the US and other countries, the printing and shipping costs for India tend to be slightly higher. That’s why the price may feel a bit on the higher side when purchasing from India

      1. That’s the point I wanted to highlight.
The price is higher compares to the general popular books among masses.

For example: Atomic Habits is much cheaper. Same goes with other self help books. They are popular despite of foreign origin.
I have no idea what poetry community demands for. You may want to check other poetry books, first, to promote yours.

I wish more people read you. The debut should be a kind of experiment or trial rather than mastery, I guess.

      2. You’re absolutely right, books like Atomic Habits benefit from mass publishing, bulk printing, and wide distribution networks, which helps keep their prices low. As an independent poet publishing through KDP, the production costs are higher since each copy is printed on demand. That’s why the price point may seem a bit steep in comparison, especially for readers in India.

I should also mention that I’ve published another book, Beyond the Silence by Neha Kalia, with an Indian publishing house, and it’s priced much more affordably in India, you can search for it on Amazon to compare. Publishing locally does help with cost and accessibility, which I’m definitely considering for future editions of my poetry collection.

As for the poetry community, it’s a niche space, and I’m still learning how to navigate it. This debut is, as you said, more of a heartfelt experiment than a polished masterpiece, a starting point for something I hope to grow and refine over time
